DuoBox registers
These clips are for accordion players who want to tell me what sounds wrong. Every one is generated by the app's own reed code. Nothing is sampled, and there is no reverb or other effect on them.
Each register plays the same phrase with the same bellows movement: a swell on the pull, a reversal in the middle, and a swell on the push. The only thing that changes between clips is the set of reeds. Low reeds sound an octave below the key, middle reeds at pitch, and high reeds an octave above.
Each register on its own
The treble side alone, C E G C and back down.
Bassoon
Low reed.
Bandoneon
Low and middle reeds.
Organ
Low and high reeds.
Harmonium
Low, middle and high reeds.
Accordion
Low reed and two middle reeds, the second tuned about 3 beats a second sharp at A4.
Master
Low reed, three middle reeds spread 3 beats a second either side, and a high reed.
Clarinet
One middle reed.
Violin
Two middle reeds, about 2 beats a second apart at A4.
Musette
Three middle reeds, spread about 3 beats a second either side at A4.
Oboe
Middle and high reeds.
Piccolo
High reed.
Tremolo on held notes
A long A4, a short run down, then A3 and A5, all at a steady bellows level. The tremolo is tuned by beats per second and quickens going up the keyboard. Every reed also sits within a cent of its pitch, as real reeds do, so the rate is not identical from note to note.
Violin
Measured in this clip: about 1.2 beats a second at A3 and 2.1 at A4 and A5.
Musette
Measured in this clip: about 1.9 beats a second at A3, 3.0 at A4 and 4.3 at A5.
With the bass
The same phrase over C, G and F chords, to judge the balance between the two sides. In the app the bass leans to the left and the treble to the right, so headphones help.
Musette
Bandoneon
Master
What I'd like to know
- Is the Musette too dry, too wet or about right? Should the tremolo be faster or slower?
- Is Bassoon dark enough, and Master full enough?
- Do any two registers sound too much alike?
- Is the bass too loud or too quiet against the melody?
