Knotty Navy privacy policy
Effective October 6, 2026.
Knotty Navy collects no data. Period.
- No accounts. The app has no sign-in of its own and never asks who you are. The names you engrave on the brass plate stay on your phone.
- No analytics or tracking. Knotty Navy doesn't collect usage data, device identifiers, location, or anything else, and contains no third-party code that does.
- Your games stay on your phone. The game in progress, the players' names, the ranks you have beaten, your records, your daily fleets and your settings are stored only on your device. Deleting the app deletes them.
- The hinge is read only to pass the phone. On iPhone Duo the app reads how far the phone is open, to know when it has been shut and opened. Nothing is recorded or kept.
- Game Center is Apple's. If you are signed in to Game Center, the number of shots you took to sink the day's fleet and the achievements you earn are sent to Apple under your Game Center name, so they can appear on the leaderboard. I never receive them. Signed out, the game plays the same.
- Reminders stay on your phone. If you turn on the daily reminder, the notification is scheduled by your phone. Nothing is sent to a server.
- Purchases go through Apple. The $3.99 full set is sold and checked by Apple through the App Store. I receive only Apple's standard aggregate sales reports, which contain no personal information.
- Sharing is yours. The picture of a finished game, or the result of a daily fleet, leaves the phone only when you share it yourself.
If any of this ever changes, this policy will be updated before the change ships, and the app's listing will say so.
